They dominated the early period of World War II in the battlefield with their Blitzkrieg attack on neighboring countries. The Axis power were defeated by the combined might and brains of the Allies.

Flash forward to the 21st Century, Germany is the world leading luxury car maker the likes of Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, BMW, Porsche. Japan is the leader in light, compact and fuel saver car brands like Honda, Toyota and Mazda. For the high end performance sports car categories goes to Italy for their Ferrari and Lamborghini.
